From head to toe, celebrity style is all about setting trends. With all the competition between popstars, they not only have to stand out and work it—they have to NAIL IT. Here’s a collection of Kpop, Jpop and Twpop stars who are seen sporting nail art fashion. And yes, that includes boys too!
All hail queen KODA KUMI! Her highness has been winning the title since 2006! All I have to say is, WOW. Those butterfly nails and tassles sure are creative! They look heavy, though.
“Jpop artist Koda Kumi was selected as one of Nail Queens (along with TV talento Becky and actress Ryoko Yonekura, fashion model Ann Watanabe and Jpop singer Daigo representing the men) at the Nail Queen Award Ceremony. According to Koda Kumi, her nail art is inspired by traditional kimonos from her hometown, Kyoto.”
The Japanese have Nail Expos and Official Nail Associations that showcase all the latest designs and styles in nail art. “In Japan, designing nails with piercings, textured motifs, glitter, crystals, beads, and other stunning accessories is the latest and hottest fashion trend especially among the Shibuya ganguro set. ” Nails are serious business, yo!
Not a big fan of Koda, but you got to give the woman props for being over-the-top, not only in music and performances, but in her overall style. It’s pretty difficult to pull off those claws, plus it must be very difficult to keep them from breaking—or even worse, poke someone in the eyes. Those things are killer! And… how does she manage to eat with them nails?
Koda won with talent/celebrity/TV personality Becky. Half-Japanese, half-British Becky is just all over Japan you can’t call her by one designation.
Koda’s album covers
“Koda has held the title since 2006 and because she has now reigned 3 years in a row, she was inducted into the Nail Queen Hall of Fame. She was presented the award by fellow Hall of Fame-er Becky, who had won the Talento category from 2005-2007. Koda had her claws out proudly at the awards – I think you’ll agree, they’re very impressive …” Yes, they are!
Queen of Jpop Ayumi Hamasaki won’t let herself get left behind the nail art trend!
What’s unique about Ayu’s is that hers have chains dangling between her nails. The gold chain with pendant-like accessories look pretty cool!
Resident cosplay queen and famous Japanese blogger Shokotan likes hers all girly and studded with ribbons.
Leah Dizon in a fashion nail mag sporting a short bob. Very chic.
Mika Nakashima. This girl rocks!
Cute and girly Rainie Yang
Style and music trendsetter “butterfly” Jolin Tsai. What’s cool about Jolin is that she’s always pushing the envelope. She does pretty crazy performances, incorporating gymnastics, ballet and all sorts of fusion in her dance routines. No wonder she’s Taiwan’s top female popstar!
Seo In Young’s alternate yellow and black nails add a funky, edgy twist to a sexy style.
What do BoA , SNSD’s Tiffany and Moon Geun Young have in common?
Black tips, anyone?
Pretty Yoon Eun Hye wears her nails with light, natural colors for a clean, simple look.
BOYS, BOYS, BOYS!!!
If you’re a guy and you want to look like a rockstar, you have to wear ALL dark and black—including your nails.
KAT-TUN’S Kamenashi Kazuya rocks the black nails.
…and the manliner. SIZZLIN’ HOT!
Shun Oguri’s electric blue nails. HOTTER.
Rock visual kei god, Miyavi
SUJU’s Heechul likes them long and shiny. Hmmm… somehow the words “long and shiny” sounds so wrong when put in one sentence with Heechul. ROFL
FT Island! Love love these kids! They’re your regular pretty boy-next-door good guys who know how to rock! Miss Won Bin!
